Drink-driving military officer remanded until April 28

KUALA LUMPUR: The military officer (with the rank of captain) who was arrested following a fatal drink driving incident along the Maju Expressway (MEX) has been remanded for five days until Tuesday (April 28).

The remand application, under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, was made on Friday (April 24) at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

On Thursday (April 23), a fatal crash killed one and injured two more after the officer, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, drove against traffic and collided with a car along the expressway.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said a breathalyser test found the driver had exceeded the permitted alcohol limit.

“Preliminary investigations found that the car driven by the suspect is believed to have entered the opposite lane before colliding head-on with an e-hailing MPV travelling straight on the left lane,” he said.
