RTM Pulls Cleopatra in Space After Viewer Complaints


PETALING JAYA: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has stopped broadcasting the animated series Cleopatra in Space.

RTM, through a statement issued by its Public Relations Division, said the move was made after receiving viewer complaints about its content.

"The animation, Cleopatra in Space, was broadcast on TV2 on April 18 and 19 at 9am.

"Following the complaints received, RTM has completely stopped broadcasting the animated series.

"RTM is also conducting a thorough internal investigation," the statement said on Wednesday (April 22).

RTM stressed that, as the country's public broadcaster, it is committed to providing quality, safe content and complying with community sensitivities, religious values, and local cultural norms.

At the same time, RTM expressed its appreciation to viewers who are concerned and who provide constructive feedback to improve broadcast quality.

Previously, clips from the animated series were circulated on social media by viewers due to its controversial content, which allegedly contained LGBT elements.
