AG must provide update on Durian Tunggal shooting probe

PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General must provide an immediate and transparent update on investigations into the Durian Tunggal shooting, says DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo (pic).

Gobind said it has been five months since the incident, yet there appears to be no definitive action taken against any individuals involved.

“The gravity of this case cannot be overstated. Serious allegations have been made, and evidence, including audio recordings, have been produced to support these claims. It is not unreasonable for calls for an explanation about the status of investigations in this case,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Apr 22).

Gobind, who is also Digital Minister and Damansara MP, said the matter is of public interest. He stressed that the public has the right to know what happened, while the families of the victims are entitled to answers and justice.

“I call upon the AG to explain the current stage of the investigations and to state publicly whether any action will be taken against any person involved and if so when,” he said.

The case stems from a police shooting in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on Nov 24 last year, where three men were shot dead during an early morning operation.

Police said the suspects, believed to be linked to a robbery gang, attacked officers with machetes, forcing them to fire in self-defence.

However, the incident sparked controversy after families disputed the police account.

Lawyers also raised questions over inconsistencies in the timeline and circumstances of the shooting.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers subsequently reclassified the case as murder, and the policemen involved were removed from active duty pending investigations.
