Govt allocates additional RM20mil for poverty eradication in Kelantan, says Anwar

PASIR PUTEH: The Madani Government has approved an additional allocation of RM20mil for poverty eradication programmes in Kelantan, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the allocation will be coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) in Kelantan.

"Since last year, I have been going down to the districts to listen to issues faced by district officers, such as drainage problems, as these matters affect the people. That is why we listen and take them seriously.

"Although hardcore poverty has been addressed, poverty remains widespread, including in Kelantan. Therefore, I will provide an additional special allocation amounting to RM20mil in Kelantan for projects to assist the poor,” he said.

He said this when speaking at a meet-and-greet session and visit to Masjid Gong Chapa here today, which was also attended by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

At the event, Anwar said Masjid Gong Chapa, which received an allocation of RM4mil in April last year, has now entered Phase 2 of implementation involving the construction of a multipurpose hall and landscaping works, and is expected to be completed by May 31, 2027.

"The upgrading process is being carried out in two main phases. Phase 1 was completed on March 31, covering the main prayer hall, toilets, store, mortuary room and the imam's residence.

"With the completion of Phase 1, the mosque has undergone a significant phase of modernisation, enabling nearby residents to enjoy worship facilities that are not only more complete but also far more comfortable," he said. - Bernama
