Sabah sees vocational college applications increase


KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said on Thursday (April 16) that more young people had applied to vocational colleges in Sabah.

“The Sabah government had set aside RM437.90mil this year for human capital development,” he said in a speech read by Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

During the Malaysian Education Ministry Vocational Colleges 10th Convocation ceremony in Kota Kinabalu, 1,000 graduates from vocational colleges in the Sabah Zone and the Federal Territory of Labuan received diplomas.

Hajiji said applications to vocational colleges rose from 28,098 in 2022 to 58,263 in 2026, while intake capacity was 17,912 students.

Citing the World Economic Forum's The Future of Jobs Report 2025, he said that by 2030, 170 million new jobs would be created, especially in Artificial Intelligence, renewable energy, and the green economy.
