Dialysis patient admits to sexually assaulting teenage girl at govt hospital

SEREMBAN: A 59-year-old dialysis patient pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old female patient at a government hospital.

Zulkefli Abdul Rani entered a guilty plea after the charge was read to him before Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam.

He was accused on Thursday (April 16) of committing the offence at about 4pm on Jan 30 at the green zone of Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital in Kuala Pilah.

Zulkefli was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Balkis Zunaidi then applied to fix another date for sentencing.

She told the court that the prosecution was offering bail of RM7,000 with one surety.

The accused, who was brought to court in a wheelchair, pleaded for a lower amount.

He also told the court that he had to undergo dialysis regularly and had recently suffered a broken leg.

Judge Mohamad Kamil then set bail at RM5,500 with one surety.

He also ordered the accused to surrender his passport to the court and to stay away from the victim.

The court fixed April 20 for sentencing.
