Over 210 tonnes of e-waste seized in Port Klang

PETALING JAYA: A total of 210 tonnes of electronic and scheduled waste have been seized during an integrated enforcement operation at Port Klang under Ops Green Shield 20.

Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Port Klang deputy commander Wan Fazli Wan Hamat said inspections were carried out on 16 containers from 9.30am to 1pm on Wednesday (April 8).

"Of the 16 containers inspected, nine contained electronic waste (e-waste) under category SW110, weighing 184,627kg, while another container contained scheduled waste under category SW103, weighing 26,200kg.

"The total weight of the containers detained was 210,827kg," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He added that five containers carrying plastic and metal scrap were handed over to Sirim for further action.

He also said two companies were found to have made false declarations on K1 forms related to the goods.

"Enforcement action has been taken and the case has been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation," he said.

The operation, led by AKPS, involved 18 personnel from multiple agencies, including the Customs Department, the Environment Department, Sirim and the Port Klang Authority.

He added that AKPS would continue to inspect containers suspected of carrying prohibited e-waste in line with the enforcement of a total ban on e-waste imports, which came into effect on April 1 under the Customs (Prohibition of Imports) (Amendment) (No. 3) Order 2026.

"AKPS will continue to strengthen control and enforcement at the country's entry points to safeguard national sovereignty and interests," he said.
