Negri Sembilan civil servants to work from home two days a week from April 15

SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan government will implement a two-day work-from-home policy each week for its employees beginning April 15, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

The Mentri Besar said the move aims to address the impact of the Middle East conflict on energy supply and the rising cost of goods.

"Employees will be allowed to choose any two days to work from home between Tuesday and Thursday.

"This ruling will also cover state agencies, including statutory bodies and local councils," he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting at Wisma Negri on Wednesday (April 8).

Aminuddin said the policy will apply only to those living more than eight kilometres from their workplace.

Elaborating, he said at least 50% of employees in operations-based sectors such as engineering, land administration, enforcement and technical fields must be on duty at any given time during the work-from-home period.

"Department heads must ensure compliance as we do not want services to be disrupted," he said.

Aminuddin said the work-from-home ruling will not cover those serving in critical sectors such as the armed forces, police, Fire and Rescue Department, and the health, medical, pharmacy, dentistry and education services.

He added that the ruling is not automatically applicable to those in the management and professional group, including department heads.

"They will need to obtain approval from the state secretary before they are allowed to work from home," he said.

Aminuddin reminded employees working from home not to take advantage of the flexibility.

He said they will be monitored through the SPOT-Me digital attendance and task-monitoring system, as well as Google Live.

Aminuddin added that his administration will rescind the directive if it negatively impacts the public service delivery system.
