Woman and grandniece killed while sending grandnephew to school


ALOR SETAR: A woman and her three-year-old grandniece have been killed while they were sending the child's older brother to school near Padang Terap here.

Padang Terap Deputy OCPD Dept Supt Affzanisham Mohammad Sham said in the at 6.45am incident on Tuesday (April 7), Che Ramlah Abdul Karim, 76, and her grandniece, Auni Afiqah Hadi, died at the scene from their injuries.

He said the child's nine-year-old brother was injured and all three victims were on a motorcycle.

He said police received a call about an accident between a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a motorcycle at 6.55am.

"The motorcycle was overtaking another vehicle and entered the opposite lane before colliding with the MPV," he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 7).

He said the woman and girl were pronounced dead at the scene, while the boy was taken to Kuala Nerang Hospital for further treatment.

"The bodies of both victims have been taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's forensic department for post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
