BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have arrested three foreigners over the murder of a Myanmar national at Lorong IKS Juru 5, Simpang Ampat near here.
Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said two men and a woman, in their 30s, were co-workers of the victim, a factory worker.
He said the suspects were detained on Monday (April 6) afternoon in Juru and initial investigations revealed that the woman is the girlfriend of the main suspect, who is believed to have fled shortly after the crime.
"Efforts to track down the main suspect, a Myanmar national whose identity has been established, are ongoing, including to determine the motive of the incident," he told Bernama when contacted on Tuesday (April 7).
He said all three suspects, who possess valid work documents, have been remanded for seven days until April 13 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
According to him, police recovered a knife believed to have been used in the murder about 300 metres from where the body was found, while a post-mortem conducted at Hospital Seberang Jaya yesterday confirmed that the victim died from multiple stab wounds to the ribs.
Earlier, a 53-year-old Myanmar man was found dead at about 10.50 pm, with initial forensic investigations at the scene indicating that the victim was discovered lying face down by the roadside with stab wounds to the ribs. – Bernama
