THOUGH she once described herself as “just a housewife” without SPM qualifications, 52-year-old Azlina Abdul Aziz has defied the odds to become a lawyer and head her own firm.

The turning point came for her in 2016 when her son faced a legal problem, Harian Metro reported.

“My son has learning difficulties but he was arrested alongside other individuals linked to the case,” said Azlina.

Determined to understand the court proceedings, Azlina began reading case files and legal texts.

Weekly visits to prison exposed her to the struggles of other families, sparking her resolve to help.

She said her friends also encouraged her to pursue law, a journey she began at 43.

Azlina began her studies while managing her son’s case. Her perseverance paid off in 2022 when her son was acquitted after nearly six years.

Raised in a Felda settlement, financial hardship forced Azlina to leave school before completing her SPM.

She married at a young age, but the union ended, leaving her a single mother before she married an Australian and lived there from 2003 until 2010.

When they came back to Malaysia, she dedicated her life to her family until her son’s arrest.

> Actor Zul Ariffin, who remains a bachelor at the age of 40, said he isn’t rushing into marriage, Berita Harian reported.

“When will I get married? I honestly do not know. Maybe sometime in my 40s, but definitely not when I reach my 50s.”

Asked about chatter that he was too picky in choosing a partner, Zul explained that time constraint was the main factor.

“Choosing a partner requires time. The problem is, I do not have the time to do that, and the days just pass me by,” he said.

“If we want to achieve something, we need to stay focused. Right now, I am not focusing on finding a soulmate.”
