Four Kelantan cops remanded over RM12,000 bribery case

KOTA BHARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has remanded four police officers from the District Police Headquarters (IPD) in the state on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes totalling about RM12,000.

The money is believed to have been paid in exchange for not taking legal action against an individual who was found carrying ketum leaves in his car, Sinar Harian reported.

A five-day remand order, until April 11, was issued against all the suspects by Judge Rais Imran Hamid after MACC filed an application at the Kota Bharu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning (April 7).

According to sources, the four men, aged between 20 and 40, comprise a sergeant, a corporal and two constables. They were detained between 9am and 1pm on Monday at their respective offices.

“Initial investigations found that all the suspects are believed to have abetted the act in December 2025.

“They are believed to have received bribes via fund transfers to personal bank accounts belonging to third parties,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Kelantan MACC director Azmi Yusoff, when contacted, confirmed the arrests.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
