Cheras mattress factory razed by fire


PETALING JAYA: A mattress manufacturing factory in Kampung Batu 10, Cheras, was 80% destroyed in a fire on Monday (April 6) night.

Assistant director (Operations) of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, said the department received an emergency call at 9.32pm.

“Fire engines from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 9.49pm, about 15km away from the station.

“The fire involved a Class A factory measuring about 200 by 100 square feet, with flames rapidly spreading when firefighters arrived,” he said in a statement on Monday (April 6).

He added that firefighting operations are ongoing, with assistance from personnel from the Pandan, Seri Kembangan and Kajang fire stations.

A total of 29 personnel, along with four Fire Rescue Tenders (FRT), two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) units and one water tanker, have been deployed to the scene.

“The operation commander has reported that the fire is still active, and efforts to contain the blaze are in progress,” he said.

No casualties have been reported as at press time.
