Driver of car that crashed into two motorcycles pleads not guilty

KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a car that crashed into two motorcycles here has pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court to two charges of reckless and dangerous driving.

TS Kugenthiran, 25, is accused of having driven recklessly, endangering Muhammad Afiq Zayani Azliyuszaini, 24, and Muhammad Hairy Abdul Rahman, 19, on Jalan Sultan Ismail, heading from the city centre towards Tuanku Abdul Rahman, at 4.30 am on April 2.

He was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM15,000, disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least two years, and cancellation of a probationary licence upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurbatrisyia Mohd Razib had earlier offered bail of RM4,000 per charge with one surety.

However, the accused's lawyer, Ahmad Nadzli Rizal, sought a lower bail, explaining that his client is single, works part-time in Genting Highlands, and is awaiting admission for further studies.

Magistrate Tg Syazwany Yasmyn Tuan Roslan granted bail of RM3,000 for each charge with one surety and set June 15 for the case mention.

Police had detained a man who allegedly failed to stop at a red traffic light and hitting two motorcycles.
