IPOH: Two men were sentenced by Sessions Court here to six years in jail and three strokes of the cane for raping an underage girl in Perak Tengah in two separate incidents.
Mohd Airul Abu Talib, 28, and Muhammad Asri Mohd Hussin, 25, who were charged separately, pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code before Judge Jean Sharmila Jesudason here.
Mohd Airul was accused of having sex with the then 13-year-old victim at his house in Kampung Sungai Timah, Perak Tengah, in June 2024.
Muhammad Asri, meanwhile, was accused of committing the offence at a house in Sungai Jejawi at about 7pm on March 21.
Mohd Airul, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency, saying he has to care for his mother and siblings.
He added that he works as an excavator driver earning about RM150 per day.
“I regret my actions and apologise. I promise not to repeat the offence and hope for a lenient sentence,” he said.
Muhammad Asri also pleaded for a lenient sentence, saying that he earns about RM90 daily as a labourer.
Judge Jean Sharmila ordered that the prison terms of both accused to run from the date of their arrest on March 22.

Separately, an unemployed man, Mohd Yusof Mat Yatim, 42, pleaded not guilty after being charged in the Sessions Court here with attempting to murder his wife at their home in Perak Tengah.
He is accused of smothering Nur Syazwana Mohd Talaha, 38, with a pillow at a house in Taman Changkat Lada Raya, Seberang Perak, at about 9am on March 25.
Prosecuting officer Insp Zahira Musa urged the court not to offer bail to the accused.
She said that according to the investigating officer, the accused had acted aggressively during the investigation and had attempted to jump from the fourth floor of the place of interrogation.
Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi fixed May 4 for mention and to allow Mohd Yusof time to secure legal representation.
