Tangkak man loses RM118K in part-time job scam


TANGKAK: A local man says he lost RM118,287.80 to a syndicate offering a nonexistent part-time job scheme.

Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the 35-year-old victim was offered a commission to perform several tasks through a website.

"He was promised that commissions would be paid once he completed the tasks," Supt Roslan said in a statement on Thursday (April 2).

He said the victim did not receive the commissions as promised, despite completing the tasks.

"However, the suspect managed to trick the victim out of RM118,287.80, made over 12 transactions to five different bank accounts," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

Supt Roslan reminded the public to be alert and careful when dealing with unknown persons, especially in matters involving financial transactions.

The public can also can go to the Semak Mule portal, contact the CCID Scam Response Centre at 03-26101559 or 03-26101599, or refer to the "jsjkpdrm" and "cybercrimealertrmp" Facebook pages.

Scam victims are also advised to call the National Scam Response Centre at 997 immediately.
