PETALING JAYA: A fire completely destroyed a helicopter that was taking off after undergoing repair works.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the fire occurred at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang yesterday.
“The operations commander reported that the Kamov Ka-32S helicopter was believed to have caught on fire during an engine test after repair works were done.”
At the time of the fire, the helicopter was carrying a crew of four Ukrainians, including two pilots.
“One of the victims was slightly injured by shrapnel,” he said, adding that the others escaped without injury.
Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chief executive officer Capt Datuk Norazman Mahmud said the incident led to eight inbound flights being diverted to other airports, while three departing flights had to be delayed.
