KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has emphasised that prudent public spending is essential to ensure national resources are managed efficiently and effectively.

In a Facebook post yesterday, His Majesty said such an approach is crucial as the country faces global economic uncertainty.

The King also noted the government’s cost-saving measures aimed at strengthening the nation’s financial position.

Sultan Ibrahim said this when granting an audience to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Tunku here.

Also present were National Security Council director-general Datuk Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin and Petroliam Nasional Bhd president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja Aziz.

During the meeting, His Majesty was briefed on the latest developments in the economy and national security, Bernama reported.

The briefing covered cost of living issues and measures taken by the government to ensure sustainable economic growth.

It also touched on national security matters, including internal security, border control and the preparedness of security forces.

The post said the briefing reflected His Majesty’s concern over current national developments.
