Fadhlina: Sustained efforts needed to further reduce SPM absenteeism

KAJANG: Efforts to curb absenteeism in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination must be sustained, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

While absenteeism rates improved last year, she said the issue still requires serious attention across all levels of the education system, including the State Education Departments (JPN), District Education Offices (PPD), and schools.

The absenteeism rate declined to 5,032 candidates in 2025, compared to 6,246 in 2024 - a reduction of 1,214 candidates.

“We already have a compulsory secondary school policy that I am sure will have an overall impact,” she said during a press conference at SMK Kajang Tinggi on Tuesday (March 31).

“The second is to look back at support programs so that they can continue their studies and also their attendance at school,” she added.

She also said that this cohort - the first to go through the system without the Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) and Form Three Assessment (PT3) - has proven to be a strong, resilient generation with high endurance.

Candidates can obtain their results from 10am on Tuesday at their schools and nearest state education departments (for private candidates).

Results are also available online at myresultspm.moe.gov.my and via SMS by typing SPM (space) MyKad number (space) index number and sending it to 15888.

A total of 413,299 candidates sat for SPM 2025 at 3,350 exam centres nationwide.
