Three Kedah districts hit with Level 2 heatwave status


PETALING JAYA: Three districts in Kedah have hit Level 2 heatwave status while 16 other areas across Peninsular Malaysia have been listed under Level 1, says the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In an update at 6am on Wednesday (March 25), MetMalaysia said Pokok Sena, Pendang and Baling are now under Level 2.

The Level 2 status is reached when maximum daily temperatures range between 37°C and 40°C for at least three consecutive days.

Meanwhile, 16 areas have been placed under Level 1.

They are Perlis; Sik, Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu, Langkawi, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah; Timur Laut and Utara in Penang; as well as Hulu Perak, Selama, Kinta and Kuala Kangsar in Perak, and Jerantut and Raub in Pahang.

The Level 1 status is reached when maximum daily temperatures range between 35°C and 37°C for at least three consecutive days.
