Armizan: No fuel shortages, only logistical delays

KOTA KINABALU: The so-called supply disruptions at several petrol stations in Sabah were due to logistical delays, says Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

He said these reported shortages were isolated cases which lasted only a few hours in certain locations.

“The delays were attributed to a surge in demand during the festive season, which temporarily slowed delivery schedules.

“The public should not resort to panic buying, especially fuel, as supply is sufficient throughout the country,” he said after paying a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor yesterday.

Armizan gave an assurance that Malaysia is not facing any shortage of petrol, diesel or cooking gas.

He reiterated that fuel supply remains sufficient and stable nationwide, with Malaysia’s situation far more secure compared to several neighbouring countries currently experiencing disruptions.

“There is no shortage of fuel in the country. Supplies are guaranteed and the situation is stable. The issues raised were limited to logistical delays during peak demand,” he said.

Armizan said his ministry is continuously monitoring the situation and has taken measures to ensure smooth distribution and prevent recurrence of such shortages.

He reminded the public that selling or refilling fuel outside vehicle tanks without a special permit is illegal under the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 and the Control of Supplies (Amendment) Regulations 2021.

He warned that firm action would be taken against offenders while all petrol station operators are required to comply fully and report any suspicious behaviour by their customers.
