Viral video of bloodied woman in Lahat leads to husband's arrest

IPOH: A woman was found covered in blood and pleading for help in Desa Pengkalan Timah, Lahat, in an incident that has since gone viral on social media.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the video, uploaded by a user identified as "Haikal (@kaltrwh)", showed the victim seeking assistance from members of the public in the area.

He said a report was lodged by a local woman at about 10.50pm on Tuesday (March 24).

Initial investigations revealed that the incident was triggered by a verbal altercation between the victim and her husband, believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The suspect has been arrested and the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, as well as Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.

The suspect will be brought before the Ipoh magistrate's court today (March 25) for a remand application, he said in a statement.

He urged any witnesses to come forward to assist in investigations by contacting the nearest police station.

Members of the public have also been advised against speculating on the case to avoid interfering with ongoing investigations, he added.
