Hot weather alert issued for northern peninsula, parts of Pahang and Negri

GEORGE TOWN: Residents in Penang’s densely populated North-East District are urged to take precautions after it was placed under a Level One hot weather alert.

The alert, issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on Monday (March 23), came after maximum daily temperatures of between 35°C and 37°C were recorded for at least three consecutive days in the district and other areas designated under Level One.

In Kedah, hotter conditions were reported, with Padang Terap placed under a Level Two (heatwave) alert, where temperatures ranged between 37°C and 40°C over the same period.

Several other districts in Kedah are under Level One, namely Sik, Pendang, Pokok Sena, Kubang Pasu, Kuala Muda and Bandar Baharu, as well as Langkawi.

Perlis is also under a Level One alert, along with Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar in Perak.

Outside the northern region, Jerantut in Pahang and Rembau in Negri Sembilan were similarly placed under Level One alert conditions.
