Selangor cops to mobilise 542 personnel to ensure smooth traffic ahead of Hari Raya

PETALING JAYA: A total of 542 officers and police personnel from the Selangor contingent have been deployed to the field to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users throughout the state in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri this week.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said it involved 41 officers and 501 personnel who would be on duty throughout the festive season to make Ops Selamat 26 and Ops Lancar a success.

He said the assignment was also reinforced with logistical assets involving 70 patrol cars (MPVs) and 148 Motorcycle Patrol Units.

"Close monitoring will be carried out at 23 strategic locations covering 16 districts to enforce the speed limit. In addition, special focus will be given to 53 hotspots and 34 blackspots that have been identified," he said.

He said this at a press conference after the Road Safety Campaign and Advocacy in Conjunction with Aidilfitri at PJS 2 Toll Plaza here Monday (March 16).

Also present was Selangor Road Transport Department director Azrin Borhan.

According to Comm Shazeli, his party has taken proactive steps by arranging Ops Lancar operations in advance, starting from March 18 to 29 to regulate major congestion points throughout Selangor.

In the meantime, Shazeli also reminded drivers of goods vehicles about the driving ban on March 19 to 20 and March 28 to 29.

He said failure to comply with the ban was an offence and could result in a fine of up to RM2,000, however, exemptions were given to heavy machinery and cranes carrying out emergency work.

Members of the public who require emergency assistance or wish to report traffic can contact the Selangor JSPT Operations Room at 03-5510 0559 or the Selangor CCC at 03-5514 5206. - Bernama
