Kluang youth nabbed for selling fireworks, firecrackers illegally


KLUANG: Police have arrested a local male youth for allegedly selling fireworks and firecrackers without a valid permit in a roadside raid here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said, acting on a tip-off, police detained the suspect in his early 20’s during an operation along Jalan Penghulu Kassim here at 6pm on Sunday (March 15).

“We believe that the suspect was selling the fireworks and firecrackers illegally, as he did not have any license or permit to do so.

“During the raid, police seized a total of 238 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers of various sizes with a total estimated value of RM6,000,” he said here on Monday.

ACP Bahrin added that the suspect has no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs while the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.

He urged those with information about sales of fireworks illegally or any criminal activities to contact Kluang police hotline number at 07-7766822.
