SHAH ALAM: Former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has also submitted a letter applying to rejoin the party, Sinar Harian reports.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the Sembrong MP was among the Umno leaders who had submitted such applications, in addition to former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, the Malay language daily reported.

He said several letters seeking to return and strengthen the party’s “Rumah Bangsa” (House of the Nation) platform had been received from Umno leaders who had previously been suspended or expelled.

“News that is deeply moving and heartening in the final nights of Ramadan.

“Besides Khairy Jamaluddin, many other leaders who have contributed greatly have submitted letters applying to return and strengthen this ‘Rumah Bangsa’ struggle, including Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.

“May Allah bless Umno as this ‘Rumah Bangsa’ so that it can continue to champion the agenda of Islam, the Malays and the nation as a whole,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (March 16).

Earlier, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi shared that he had received a visit from Khairy Jamaluddin, who handed over an appeal letter to return to Umno.

Previously, Hishammuddin said he was willing to return to fight alongside Umno if the party lifted his membership suspension.

He said he was touched and thankful to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for opening the door widely to any former members who had been expelled or suspended to return and rejoin Umno.

Hishammuddin was suspended for six years beginning 27 January 2023, or for two terms of the Umno supreme council elections.
