Dr Wee: BN will gain from Hishammuddin, KJ comeback

JOHOR BARU: The return of suspended Umno leaders such as Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin to the party fold will only strengthen Barisan Nasional as a whole, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said the leaders have proven track records and contribution to the nation.

“They have vast experience in various levels of administration. They are also respected political figures and widely accepted by all races.

“By having such moderate leaders, it will give the rakyat hope that Barisan is heading towards unity and solidarity.

“Their presence will be an advantage to Barisan. With a common goal, this will bring a positive impact rather than adversity to the party,” he said after attending a Chinese New Year dinner jointly hosted by Johor Baru, Pasir Gudang, Pulai and Iskandar Puteri MCA divisions on Saturday (March 14) night.

Dr Wee added that Hishammuddin and Khairy’s positive response towards returning to Umno also signalled their willingness to resume the party struggle.

He said the return of former members, no matter who they are, would strengthen Barisan as a whole.

“I am confident that the people want to see a more united Barisan, not just within each party but also across the components,” he added.

Rumah Bangsa, mooted by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is an initiative for suspended or sacked members to return to the party without conditions.

In January 2023, Hishammuddin, former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan and former Tebrau Umno chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang received a six-year suspension each, while former Umno Youth chief Khairy was sacked.

On March 12, Hishammuddin, who is Sembrong MP, said he is ready to return and be active in Umno once again if his suspension is lifted.

Khairy also hinted at returning to Umno in his podcast Keluar Sekejap which he shares with Shahril.
