Technician gets 18 years' jail, 24 strokes of cane for child trafficking, sexual abuse


JOHOR BARU: A technician has been sentenced to 18 years in prison and 24 strokes of the rotan after being convicted on 10 charges involving child trafficking, the sexual abuse of children and the production of sexual abuse material.

This comes after the accused, Muhammad Imran Abdullah, 30, pleaded guilty to the charges read before Judges Mohd Zamir Suhaimee, Madinah Zainol and Nor Aziati Jaafar at three separate Sessions Courts here on Friday (March 13).

In the first court, Muhammad Imran, who works as a technician at an airport in Singapore, was charged with trafficking three babies aged between five days and seven months old.

He was accused of committing the acts in Taman Melor, Taman Kota Masai and Taman Scientex in Johor Baru between March 11 and Nov 24, 2024.

Muhammad Imran was charged under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Act 2007 for the offences.

Mohd Zamir sentenced the accused to 15 years' imprisonment for each charge, to run concurrently.

In the second court, he was charged with two counts of sexually assaulting a five-year-old child.

He was also charged with producing child sexual abuse material by recording a video of the victim during the act.

He was charged under Section 5, Section 14(a) and Section 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

He was accused of committing the offences around Kampung Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang between 10.30am and 11am on April 5, 2024.

Madinah sentenced the accused to a total of 10 years in jail and 12 strokes of the rotan for the offences.

In another court, he also faced two charges under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act for sexually assaulting two children aged between six and seven years old.

He was also charged under Section 5 of the same Act for producing child sexual abuse material by recording videos of the two children.

He was also accused of committing the offences around Kampung Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang at 11am on April 5, 2024.

Nor Aziati sentenced the accused to a total of 18 years in jail and 12 strokes of the rotan for the offences involving the two children.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutors Nur Diyana Zubir, Nor Fadilah Johanuddin and Nur Farah Wahai, while the accused was represented by lawyers Mohamed Imran Mohamed Sam and Haziq Ishak.
