Sabah ministry's gesture of thanks to frontliners at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

KOTA KINABALU: Healthcare workers and visitors at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here were treated to care packets to break their fast on Thursday (March 12).

A total of 500 food packs were distributed by the Sabah Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Development Ministry to thank frontliners for their sacrifice and dedication during Ramadan.

Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said it is also to help visitors to the hospital break their fast more conveniently, with the hope that their burdens would be lifted, even if it was just for a day.

"We want to show our appreciation to all the dedicated healthcare workers and the same time, allow patrons to have a decent breaking of fast while waiting for or visiting their relatives at the hospital.

"We chose Queen Elizabeth Hospital for our programme this year to show our sincere gratitude for all its staff have done for the community," he added.

Nizam hoped the programme would bring hospital employees and visitors closer to the ministry, while igniting a spirit of giving throughout Ramadan.

Other than the hospital, his ministry also distributed bubur lambuk at the Likas Sports Complex as part of its Ramadan programme this year.

During the event at the hospital, its director Datuk Dr Abd Kahar Abd Asis conveyed his appreciation to the ministry for its caring gesture towards the staff.

He said the hospital operates 24 hours a day.

"We ensure our operations run smoothly for our patients and the community.

"We have around 4,000 personnel on three shifts, with around 1,000 to 1,500 on duty per shift," he said.

Dr Kahar said the hospital receives around 2,000 outpatients and 700 inpatients per day, and they receive about 2,500 visitors daily.
