Two arrested for allegedly robbing Spanish tourist

PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested two local men believed to be involved in a snatch theft that left a Spanish woman injured in Taman Midah, Cheras.

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rosdi Daud said police received a report on Feb 17 at about 1.59pm regarding the incident.

“The victim, a Spanish woman in her mid-20s, sustained injuries during the snatch theft,” he said in a statement on Thursday (March 12).

Acting on information, the Cheras police criminal investigation department then launched a special operation and arrested two local men aged between 27 and 28 in Cheras last Friday.

“Police also seized several items believed to have been used by the suspects during the crime,” he said.

ACP Mohd Rosdi said the victim suffered soft tissue injuries to her upper limb and left lower limb, including her knee, shoulder and left hand, based on a medical report.

He added that the victim suffered losses estimated at RM2,000.

“The suspects were remanded for seven days from March 7 until March 13 to assist investigations,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery.

Police are completing the investigation papers before referring the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.
