Couple rescues turtle while cleaning up beach

A COUPLE’s plastic collecting routine at the beach led to the discovery of a female turtle trapped in a net at the Dataran Batu Buruk 2 area in Kuala Terengganu, Utusan Malaysia reported.

The female turtle, estimated to be about two years old, was rescued after efforts were made to remove it from the net that it was stuck in.

Mohammad Umbaidah Tengah said he and his wife, Zaleha Abu Bakar, were volunteering to collect trash along the Kuala Terengganu coast when the discovery was made.

Initially, they did not notice the turtle’s presence because from afar only the net was visible from the shore.

“When we got closer, only then we noticed there was a turtle and it was struggling. We proceeded to remove it carefully before releasing it back into the sea,” he said.

Mohammad Umbaidah and his wife have been members of the Green Plastic Gang since 2017, collecting garbage along the beach as part of their daily routine.

“While cleaning the beach, we have found a variety of items such as floats from Vietnam, jellyfish and even syringes,” he said.

> Actress Sharifah Sakinah is now more cautious when sharing details of her personal life, especially when it comes to developments with her daughter, Anais Adha Alif Adha, 9, on social media, Harian Metro Online reported.

Sharifah Sakinah, whose real name is Sharifah Nurul Sakinah Syed Abu Bakar, 37, said this was done to ensure her daughter’s privacy, even though she still occasionally uploads pictures online.

“Maybe there are pictures that I post once a week, but sometimes there are none at all. I don’t reveal my personal life excessively,” she said.

On Anais’ interests, the actress said her daughter has inherited a strong artistic talent, and often spent time honing her drawing skills with her stepfather.

“The artistic blood is very clear in her, but as a mother, I will not let her go in the wrong direction,” she said.
