Masidi gets to keep Karanaan as High Court throws out bid to quash results


KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here dismissed a judicial review application filed by an independent candidate seeking to challenge the election result of the Karanaan state constituency that was won by Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

Judge Datuk Alexander Siew How Wai dismissed a judicial review applicaton by Naomi @ Neomi Francis, 59, to quash the Election Commission’s declaration of Masidi as the winner of the seat and sought a fresh election for Karanaan.

Naomi had named the Election Commission and Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, the declared winner of the seat, as respondents.

Justice Siew ordered Naomi to pay RM5,000 in costs to each of the respondents.

Maisidi won the Karanaan seat, which he has held since 2004, with a majority of over 5,000 votes in the Nov 29, 2025 state election.
