Foreigner found dead with head injuries


GEORGE TOWN: Police on a crime prevention patrol made a gruesome discovery when they found a body of a man at Gat Lebuh Macallum here.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the body, believed to be that of a ­foreigner in his 20s, was found in an open area behind an apartment building.

He said the death was due to blunt force trauma to the head.

The grim discovery was made at about 12.05am yesterday by policemen from the police headquarters here.

“Upon inspection, they found visible injuries to the man’s head,” ACP Abdul Rozak said in a statement.

Paramedics from Hospital Pulau Pinang were called to the scene to confirm the death.

A post-mortem conducted by the hospital later confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

ACP Abdul Rozak said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He urged anyone with information related to the incident to contact investigating officer ASP Suhami Mat at 019-232 7008.
