Company MD charged with bribing DOE officer


SHAH ALAM: A managing director of a company pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to  bribing an officer of the Environment Department (DOE) as an inducement not to take legal action against him.

Goh Chin San, 53, is accused of giving a RM5,000 bribe to a DOE senior environmental control officer over an alleged offence under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

The offence was allegedly committed at 1.15pm on May 22 last year by the roadside near a business premises in the Kuala Selangor district.

Goh was charged under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

He faces up to 20 years' jail and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.

Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud allowed Goh bail of RM12,000 with one surety and set May 13 for mention.

He also ordered Goh to report to the MACC office in Shah Alam every month, surrender his passport to the court and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses. – Bernama
