Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, on behalf of the State Government, received the EFT grant from NRES Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup at Menara Kinabalu in Kota Kinabalu.

KOTA KINABALU: The Federal Government has given a RM22.748mil grant under its Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) initiative to support the state government’s environmental conservation efforts.

The grant, which has now amounted to RM126.36mil since 2019, was presented by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor at Menara Kinabalu here on Monday (March 9).

“This clearly shows the Federal Government’s acknowledgement of the state government's sound environmental conservation policy.

"The state government welcomes the continuous support from the Federal Government," he said.

Hajiji and Kurup also discussed the amendment to the 1974 Environment Quality Act and the harmonisation of the National Climate Change Bill with Sabah’s legislation to ensure that the benefits of the carbon economy can be optimised by the Sabah government.

The meeting was also attended by the ministry's deputy secretary-general, Datuk Nor Yahati Awang and senior officers.
