Wife admits role in RM500,000 robbery, five claim trial


JOHOR BARU: Six locals, including the victim’s own wife and a wheelchair-bound man, have been charged over a robbery case involving a Pakistani businessman.

In the Sessions Court, Muhammad Syukri Mohamed Yusoff, 32, and Abdul Rahman Abd Rahim, 23, pleaded not guilty to committing gang robbery before judge Mohd Zamir Suhaimee yesterday.

They are accused of robbing the businessman of RM500,000 in cash at a parking area behind a bank in the Pasir Gudang Trade Centre at 12.30pm on Feb 24.

Emmirul Azim Samat, 30, claimed trial to making preparations to commit gang robbery against the same victim at the same place and time.

He also pleaded not guilty to dishonestly receiving RM50,000 belonging to the victim.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Fatimah Mamu prosecuted the case, while lawyers G. Kamala and Mohammad Muzammil Mohammad Hairiri represented the three accused.

The court allowed bail of RM8,000 each for Muhammad Syukri and Abdul Rahman in one local surety, while Emmirul was granted bail of RM10,000 in one surety. They were ordered to report to the nearest police station monthly, surrender their passports and refrain from contacting the victim or witnesses.

In a separate Sessions Court before judge Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim, two others were charged with criminal conspiracy to commit gang robbery at the same location on Feb 24.

Muhammat Rashid Ismail, 30, who is paralysed, pleaded not guilty, while Shameem Begum Abdul Said, 53, the victim’s wife, pleaded guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Afdhallan Syafiq prosecuted, while lawyer Hafiz Zalkapli represented Muhammat Rashid.

Shameem Begum was unrepresented.

The court allowed bail of RM12,000 each in one local surety and ordered them to report to the nearest police station monthly.

The court set April 8 for case mention and submission of ­documents and sentencing in the case of Shameem Begum.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Taufiq Mohammad Jamil, 31, pleaded not guilty before magistrate Azureen Sahira Sauffee Afandi to possessing an imitation firearm.

He is accused of keeping a ­silver imitation pistol resembling a Pietro Beretta in an office room in Taman Damansara Aliff, Tampoi, at about 11.05am on Feb 27.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Fatihah Mohd Nizam prosecuted the case, while the accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Tarmeze Mohd Taib.

The court allowed bail of RM5,000 in one surety and set March 31 for case mention.
