KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is expected to hold its party elections by the end of this year, said Acting President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

While it was not mentioned whether all posts would be contested, the major positions from all levels including the presidency are believed to be challenged.

“Make sure to reorganise membership in all divisions. Take and make the necessary arrangements so that we can enter our Delegates Conference in September properly,” he said at the PBS’ 41st anniversary celebrations here, Thursday.

Joachim said it was best to settle division meetings and elections by April, May or June, so that they can better focus on the party elections.

This is to also prepare for the incoming general elections, he said in advising members to choose capable leaders to ensure winnability, instead of personalities regardless of their chances of victory.

He said all divisions must ensure that they have enough members according to the constitution, especially the Registrar of Societies’ requirements or else they can only be observers and not representatives.

Joachim, who has been holding the acting presidency post since June 2024 after its president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili handed over duties due to health issues, is said to officially take on the position after their party election this year.

Earlier, he said although PBS is already 41 years old and have matured, their fight for the people is far from over.

He said as a party that has been around for so long, it was important that they continue to fight as they did in the beginning up to the end up to the finishing line.

“We must be consistent in our struggle for the party, the people and the state and not back out at the last minute,” he said.
