GEORGE TOWN: Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik has been appointed the new Penang trade and community unity committee chairman.

Goh, 52, a two-term assemblyman and Penang PKR deputy chairman, replaces Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Fahmi Zainol from the same party, who has been relieved of his duties.

He was sworn in before Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib at Seri Mutiara, the Governor’s official residencea at about 11am on Friday (Mar 6).

A two-term Penang state assemblyman for Bukit Tambun, Goh had first won the seat in 2018 and retained it in the 2023 state election.

Speaking to reporters, Goh said he would go “all out” in carrying out his duties within the short time left in his tenure.

“My time is not long, so I will carry this trust and responsibility with full dedication.

“I will meet the Penang Chief Minister to better understand my portfolio, but the most important task is to go all out to fulfil the needs of the people and the state government, and to realise our manifesto from the 2023 state election,” he said.
