Thorough probe underway into alleged plot against govt, says IGP

PUTRAJAYA: Bukit Aman is in the midst of recording statements from several individuals in connection with investigation into an alleged attempt to sabotage the government, says Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

The Inspector-General of Police said so far the police have recorded the statement of an individual in the course of the investigation.

"We will be calling up three to four more individuals to assist with the investigation.

"The investigation must be conducted thoroughly and carefully as it involves various aspects, including elements both within and outside the country," he told reporters after the Home Ministry's monthly assembly on Thursday (March 5).

The IGP said the investigation requires a comprehensive approach to identify all related issues.

"The statement recorded so far was quite lengthy and will need time to be reviewed carefully,” he added.

He stressed that the process requires patience to ensure that all aspects of the case are properly examined without affecting other related matters.

"The matter also touches on issues of national security, which must always be safeguarded.

"We hope the public understands the importance of maintaining stability and security," he said.

On Feb 27, Mohd Khalid had said that a police report was received on Thursday (Feb 26) concerning the issue, which allegedly involves an influential local individual and an international media agency.

He added that investigations are being conducted by Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (USJT).

The case is being investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which relates to activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

In a separate statement, the Attorney General's Chambers stressed that any party found to be involved, if proven, must be held accountable under existing laws, regardless of position or background.
