KUALA LUMPUR: A political party reportedly using the name “Keluarga Malaysia” has no affiliation with the Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia (YKM).
YKM chairman, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic), said that if such a party exists, it is entirely separate from the long-established welfare foundation that assists orphans and underprivileged families.
“This is the first I’m hearing about a Keluarga Malaysia party. If it does exist, it has no connection whatsoever with Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia. We will wait for any official announcements from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) and verify the matter ourselves,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian.
Earlier reports indicated that opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin is set to lead the Keluarga Malaysia Party, continuing his political career following his expulsion from Bersatu in February.
The party’s founder, Khairi Jaya, confirmed that efforts to facilitate Hamzah’s leadership are ongoing and appear likely to succeed.
Ismail Sabri noted that he has only been informed of the development and is awaiting formal confirmation from ROS before taking any further action.
He expressed concern that the use of the same name could confuse the public, particularly donors who have historically supported YKM’s charitable initiatives.
“Yes, it could be confusing. Some people might be misled, and it could create difficulties for us. There is a risk that others might also try to use the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ name,” he said.
The former prime minister stressed that any public confusion could undermine donors’ confidence in the foundation, which relies on contributions to support orphans.
“Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia receives donations from the public to help orphans under its care,” he said.
He added that the foundation is considering measures to protect its identity and reputation, including registering or trademarking the name Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia.
