Select committee on AG-PP reform Bill to meet on March 16, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: The Special Select Committee to look into the Bill to separate the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor will meet on March 16, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said the special committee, chaired by Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, would look into feedback from MPs on the Bill.

"The process to look into views, collect feedback and improve the Bill will take around three months," said the Madani government spokesman during his weekly press conference on Wednesday (March 4) after a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (March 4).

The Constitution (Amendment) (No 2) Bill 2026, which seeks to separate the roles of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor, was referred to the Special Select Committee on Tuesday (March 3) following a voice vote in the Dewan Rakyat.

The Bill was tabled for second reading by Azalina on Wednesday at the Dewan Rakyat but it was not continued to the debate session.

The Bill was tabled for first reading on Feb 23.

Azalina had said the Special Select Committee would include MPs from both the government and the Opposition.
