AKPS seizes 25 containers with more than 540 tonnes of e-waste in Port Klang

PETALING JAYA: A total of 25 containers were found to be carrying e-waste, while another seven contained scheduled waste under categories SW102 and SW422 during Op Green Shield 14 inspections at Port Klang on Wednesday (March 4).

The operation was led by the Port Klang branch of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) and carried out in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Environment Department, SIRIM and the Port Klang Authority.

Port Klang AKPS commander Deputy Comm Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said 55 containers were inspected during the operation, with 32 of them seized after they were found to be carrying prohibited waste.

“Of the total, 25 containers were filled with e-waste weighing 546,650kg.

“Another seven containers contained scheduled waste weighing 170,303kg, bringing the total weight to 716,953kg,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 4).

DCP Nik Ezanee said the inspection was conducted to continue the verification process of the container list provided by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department and the Port Klang Authority in 2025.

The e-waste containers will be placed in a secure area pending a notice from the Environment Department for re-export purposes.

“We will continue to intensify inspections on commercial containers suspected of carrying prohibited waste and strengthen control and enforcement at the country’s entry points to ensure that national sovereignty and interests are always safeguarded,” he added.
