Chinese community is strategic partner in driving Sabah development, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah hopes that the Chinese community will continue to be a strategic partner in driving the development of the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the state government consistently supports programmes that enhance unity, racial harmony and social development.

He said this is in line with the aspirations of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) initiative.

"Strong unity can only be achieved when the people stand together and appreciate the diversity that exists within our community," he said.

The Chief Minister spoke during the officiating of the 2026 Angpow Festival at Dewan Tun Hamdan in Tamparuli on Saturday (Feb 28).

His speech was delivered by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun.

Hajiji reiterated his hope that the people will continue to work alongside the government as partners to strengthen unity.

He stressed the importance of maintaining political stability for the wellbeing of the people and the smooth implementation of SMJ 2.0.

"I also hope that the Chinese community will continue to be a strategic partner of the state government in driving the state’s development," Hajiji said.

The event was organised by the Chung Fook Tong Association in collaboration with 10 other Chinese associations.

Earlier, he called on the people to continue respecting differences among one another to strengthen harmony within the multi-racial society of the state.

"This Angpow Festival proves that close cooperation between the government and community organisations can bring great benefits," said Hajiji.

He said the festival serves as an important platform to preserve and share the noble values of the Chinese community with all the people.

It also creates opportunities for local cultures to be recognised more widely, including at the international level.

"Even more encouraging, the organisation of this festival promotes participation from various races," he added.

He noted this is in line with the identity of Sabah as a peaceful, harmonious and tolerant state.

"This is our true strength, diversity celebrated together, not differences that divide us," he emphasised.
