Bintangor teacher held over alleged sexual assault of student

BINTANGOR: A 39-year-old teacher at a local school has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female student.

The arrest was confirmed by Meradong OCPD Deputy Supt Tansli Mering.

He said the suspect was detained following a police report lodged by the victim’s mother.

"The matter came to light after the student failed to attend school as usual, prompting the school to conduct an internal inquiry," said DSP Tansli in a statement on Saturday (Feb 28).

The case is currently being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The police urge the public not to speculate or disseminate unverified information that could lead to misunderstandings or jeopardise the police investigation.
