PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed deep concern over ongoing global conflicts, describing them as a test for world peace.
The Prime Minister said that while the suffering of the Palestinian people remains unresolved, new attacks by Israel and its ally, the United States, on Iran have further escalated tensions in the region.
“What deeply troubles me is that the situation in Gaza remains unresolved. Now it is made even worse by the decision of Israel and its ally, the US, to attack Iran today.
“Rarely in human history have people endured so much tragedy. For decades, nations have been colonised, violated and had their lands seized and it continues before our very eyes.
“If we have not yet learned the meaning of unity and good morals, I do not know what else we can learn,” he said during the breaking of fast event at Seri Perdana with the Higher Education Ministry and Education Ministry on Saturday (Feb 28).
According to reports by international news agencies, the Zionist regime launched its attacks on Iran on Saturday, with explosions reported in Tehran and several other cities, including Isfahan, Qom, Karaj and Kermanshah.
On concerns over the share market and rising commodity prices due to the tension, Anwar said some aspects of the economy are beyond Malaysia’s control.
“Some things are under our control, and some are not. For example, we can manage the prices of goods we produce locally
“But imported items, such as animal feed, rely heavily on international supply chains from Ukraine, Russia and Europe.
“With the blockade by Yemen and the Red Sea, transport costs have effectively doubled, leading to higher prices for goods, and that is the challenge we face,” he said.
The Prime Minister said Malaysia can manage its economy and political stability.
“When people cooperate, it builds confidence, attracts investment, creates jobs, and keeps inflation in check.
“Some things we cannot control yet, which is why understanding the economy is important,” he added.
