Mechanic killed in motorcycle crash on highway near Kajang

PETALING JAYA: A 28-year-old man was killed and both his legs were severed in a crash at KM11.2 of the LEKAS Highway heading towards Seremban late Saturday morning (Feb 28).

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said investigations found that the victim, a mechanic, lost control of his motorcycle before skidding and crashing into a guardrail.

"The motorcyclist, a local mechanic, was travelling from Kajang when he suddenly lost control and collided with the guardrail on the right side of the road.

"The impact caused severe injuries, including the severing of both his legs, and he was pronounced dead at the scene," he said in a statement on Saturday.

ACP Naazron said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those with information are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Saifudin Saadun at 011-2111 9379.

Police advised road users to drive prudently, comply with traffic regulations and remain cautious at all times.

He also reminded motorists not to treat public roads as a venue for speeding or performing dangerous stunts.

He warned that action can be taken under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving that endangers other road users.

Upon conviction, offenders may face imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000.
