Rescue mission at Sultan Azlan Shah Dam after two fall into water

IPOH: A rescue operation was launched at the Sultan Azlan Shah Dam in Ulu Kinta near here after reports that two people fell into the water early on Friday (Feb 27), with one person still missing.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said they received an emergency call at 12.45am and dispatched a team from the Tambun fire station to the scene, located about 8km away.

Firefighters arrived at 1.14am.

“Initial reports indicated that two individuals were involved in the incident,” he said.

“A 34-year-old victim was found on the water surface, while the other was believed to have drowned, based on information from dam personnel who reviewed CCTV footage,” he added.

“Rescuers threw a buoy to the visible victim and successfully brought the person onto a platform before hoisting him up using a rope system from a height of about 30 feet,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He said search efforts are ongoing for the second victim, identified as Ridzuan Zulkarnain, 32, who remains missing after submerging in the water.

“A command post has been established at the scene, with lighting support deployed to facilitate rescue operations,” he said.

“Nine personnel and one fire engine were involved in the response,” he added.
