Melaka cops investigating possible sexual assault of 12-year-old girl

MELAKA: Police are investigating if a Year Six pupil was sexually abused near her school here.

The 12-year-old girl, who was reported missing earlier in the day, was found in some bushes clad only in her underwear at about 7pm on Wednesday (Feb 25) in a visibly distressed state.

According to a police source, teachers realised the child was missing after she did not attend an extra class after school ended at 1.05pm on Wednesday.

"A search was immediately carried out and checks on the school's closed-circuit television (CCTV) system showed her leaving the school compound," the source said.

The victim later told her family that she walked out of the school's compound after she saw a car that she mistook for her mother's.

"However, she turned around after realising the car was driven by an unknown man," said the source.

The source added that the suspect chased the girl, who ran towards nearby bushes to hide but the suspect managed to find her.

The victim was later found by her family and taken to Hospital Melaka for a medical examination.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed the incident and said the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
