MELAKA: A 31-year-old single mother was sentenced to a day in jail and fined RM900 by the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh here for stealing various skincare products.

Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani meted out the sentence after the accused, Joyleen Low Mei Ling, pleaded guilty when the charge was read on Wednesday (Feb 25).

The items, which were kept inside the premises as stored property, were said to belong to another woman.

The offence was committed at the Watsons outlet in Batu Berendam here at about 5.30pm on Feb 4.

For a second or subsequent offence, the punishment may include whipping.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Hanis Aliah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence.
