Sabah floods: Multiple agencies deployed to assist victims, help in clean-up

Briefing before work starts.

KOTA KINABALU: Cleaning of mud and debris have started in many parts of the recently flooded villages of Sabah, with multiple agencies deployed to assist victims returning to damaged homes.

These include firemen, police, armed forces, civil defence officials, RELA, and other government agencies who arrived to not only bring in bottled water, food baskets and other essentials, but also to clean up.

They arrived to pick up driftwood, rubbish, and other heavy debris and washed away mud, while villagers who return home try to salvage whatever they still can.

However, it will take them a long time to get back to normal, due to the severity of the floods and damages.

The Civil Defence Department secretariat reported that the Paitan temporary relief centre has been closed as of noon Tuesday (Feb 24), while a total of 2,432 victims from 1,161 families remain in the 47 shelters in Pitas and Tawau.

The number of relief victims in Pitas are going down while those in Tawau remain the same.
